Today aboard Wicked Cuda , we had an incredible day offshore fishing in Fort Lauderdale targeting wahoo and other pelagic species. The bite turned on early as we started trolling for wahoo along the edge in about 200 feet of water just outside Port Everglades.
After spotting large schools of live bonita, we switched up our tactics and began using live bait for wahoo, which proved to be the key. Fishing near some of our favorite artificial wrecks in Fort Lauderdale, the action heated up fast. The highlight of the trip was landing a beautiful 40-pound wahoo — a first-ever catch for our crew visiting from Canada!
We were fishing light spinning tackle with 15-pound Sufix mono, 40-pound Seaguar Inshore Fluorocarbon leader, and #7 wire connected to a BKK 7/0 competition circle hook. The setup performed flawlessly against that hard-fighting wahoo.
After landing the wahoo, we stayed in the area and picked up a few nice kingfish and barracuda, keeping the rods bent and the anglers smiling all morning.
If you’re looking to book a Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing charter or want to experience the best wahoo fishing in South Florida, now’s a great time. The water temps are perfect, and the offshore bite is only getting better as we move deeper into the fall season.
