Fort Lauderdale fishing

We had a stretch of incredible weather this week in Fort Lauderdale—sunny skies, calm seas, and light easterly windsmade for picture-perfect offshore fishing conditions. Seas were flat, running 1–2 feet, which made the ride out comfortable and the fishing even better.

🛥️ Aboard Hooked Up 2 – Offshore Action at Its Best

Our recent charters aboard the Hooked Up 2, a fully equipped sportfishing boat, delivered some of the best offshore fishing Fort Lauderdale has to offer. We’ve been focusing on kite fishing with live herring, and the results have been nonstop action just 2–5 miles off the beach.

🎯 What’s Biting Off Fort Lauderdale:

Blackfin Tuna:
The blackfin tuna bite has been on fire, with multiple hookups during the late afternoon bite. Most fish are in the 20–30 lb range and aggressively hitting live herring fished under the kite in 120–180 feet of water. Bring the heavy gear—these tuna are fast, strong, and put on a show.

King Mackerel (Kingfish):
We’ve been catching solid kingfish up to 25 lbs using live baits suspended mid-column. The kings are hitting hard, often sky-rocketing the baits. Kite rigs and flat lines are both working well, with the best action around the wrecks and drop-offs in 90–130 feet.

Mahi-Mahi (Dolphin):
Some nice mahi-mahi are moving through, especially on weed lines and color changes offshore. They’re smashing live baits drifted off the kites. Most fish are school-sized, but a few larger bulls have made an appearance—keep a pitch bait ready!

Sailfish:
It’s been an excellent week for sailfish action, especially with the slick calm seas and consistent east wind. Several charters have released multiple sailfish, all caught using live herring on kite rigs. The best bite has been mid-morning through early afternoon.

Big Sharks:
The shark fishing off Fort Lauderdale is heating up! We’ve hooked into huge hammerheads, bull sharks, and sandbar sharks—some over 300 lbs. These apex predators are crushing live baits fished deep, especially around structure and wrecks in 150+ feet.

📍 Hot Spots This Week:

  • The Drop Off (Just outside Port Everglades): Killer kingfish and tuna bite

  • Southeast of the Wrecks: Consistent sailfish and shark action
